About the artist

WANG LING

Wang Ling, born in 1985 in Chengdu, China, embarked on his academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester, UK, followed by a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of Birmingham, UK. Though his formal education was rooted in business, his passion for art led him down a different path.

In 2014, Wang Ling began his exploration of art collecting and creation. His current body of work is deeply intertwined with themes of human cultural development, focusing on furniture design and large-scale installations. Through his creations, he delves into the evolution of culture by investigating the creation, function, and symbolism of objects across time. These objects, often imbued with layers of meaning, allow him to explore the overlapping shadows of past and future civilizations.

Wang Ling's artistic approach is deeply reflective, seeking to bridge the inherent gaps of geography, culture, time, and space. His works aim to transcend these boundaries, sparking continuous reflection and thought in the viewer. Rooted in the Brutalist style, his pieces often incorporate materials such as weathered wood, quenched steel plates, cast iron, and obsidian. Each element is carefully selected and crafted to evoke a sense of timelessness and to speak to the complex narratives surrounding human interaction with objects and their evolving meanings.

Today, Wang Ling’s work has gained recognition for its raw, tactile beauty and its philosophical underpinnings, inviting audiences to engage with the powerful intersections of materiality, history, and culture.
