Playdough Chair | KAR STUDIO

€0.00

The Playdough Chair by Kar Studiofurniture embodies a sculptural approach to furniture, where form is shaped with the immediacy and intuition of hand-kneaded clay. Its soft, uneven surface and rounded contours evoke a tactile sensibility, blurring the boundary between object and gesture.

Defined by a fluid backrest and three grounded legs, the chair achieves a delicate balance between stability and visual lightness. Its organic silhouette feels almost primitive yet refined, reflecting Kar Studio’s distinctive aesthetic language—playful, minimal and deeply material.

The piece carries a quiet expressiveness. Subtle variations in surface and proportion reveal the handmade process, giving each chair a unique presence. Whether presented in a natural light tone or a deep monochrome finish, the Playdough Chair adapts seamlessly to different spatial atmospheres.

Designed to function both as a seating element and as a collectible design object, it challenges conventional notions of furniture by embracing imperfection, softness and sculptural identity.

About the brand

KAR STUDIO

Kar Studio is a contemporary collectible design brand founded in 2020 in China by Steven Yeung. Positioned at the intersection of sculptural lighting, furniture and objects, the studio develops a distinct design language that merges Eastern philosophical thought with a refined contemporary aesthetic. Rooted in the principles of wabi-sabi, its work explores imperfection, material honesty and the passage of time as central elements of spatial expression.

Drawing from the conceptual framework of karma, the name “Kar” reflects an ongoing exploration of causality, emotion and transformation. Each piece is conceived as part of a broader narrative where design is not only functional but deeply introspective. Through the integration of natural textures, mineral finishes and raw surfaces, Kar Studio constructs objects that resonate with both physical presence and symbolic meaning.

Rather than adhering to traditional typologies, the studio approaches collectible design as a fluid discipline, where lighting, furniture and sculptural objects coexist within a unified artistic vision. Its works are characterized by a restrained yet powerful formal language, where balance, proportion and material tension create a sense of quiet intensity. Light is treated as a material in itself, shaping atmosphere and reinforcing the relationship between object and space.

Kar Studio’s practice reflects a new wave of Asian contemporary design, where heritage is neither replicated nor abandoned, but reinterpreted through a global lens. By bridging tradition and innovation, the studio positions its work within the evolving field of collectible design, offering pieces that function as both utilitarian objects and contemplative forms. Each creation embodies a dialogue between past and present, matter and perception, design and art.
