Origami lounge chair | ARTEMPO

€0.00

The Origami Lounge Chair by ARTEMPO reimagines the ancient art of folding into a contemporary sculptural form. Its solid-wood structure bends into three planes, allowing two functional configurations: folded, it becomes a compact lounge chair; unfolded, it transforms into a long, reclining chaise that expands comfort and spatial presence.
Crafted with precision, the piece balances sharp geometry with tactile warmth. Lacquered wood surfaces meet brass details, while the silk upholstery adds softness and depth. The design oscillates between functional seat and artistic object, echoing the essence of origami—one continuous volume unfolding into multiple possibilities with clarity and harmony.
Defined by purity of line, artisanal detail and quiet strength, the Origami Lounge Chair embodies ARTEMPO’s philosophy: tradition reinterpreted through contemporary collectible design.

ABOUT THE DESIGN

To create the Origami Lounge Chair, I was inspired by the quiet discipline of folding — a gesture that, in many cultures, transforms a simple surface into something alive. In each crease lies intention, in each angle a moment of tension between precision and intuition. This balance between rigidity and softness became the foundation of the piece.

From the meditative act of folding paper, the chair takes its sculptural geometry. Its planes seem to rise and settle simultaneously, echoing the way a folded sheet holds both movement and stillness in its form. Light travels across its surfaces like ink flowing over parchment, revealing the subtle dialogue between shadow, structure and space.

Origami becomes not only a technique but a philosophy — a reminder that complexity can emerge from simplicity, and that a single gesture can define an entire object. The Origami Lounge Chair is an invitation to pause, observe and engage with form in its most essential state: pure, intentional and quietly powerful.

About the brand

ARTEMPO

Chris Tang is a talented product designer whose passion for home furnishings was sparked at an early age, inspired by his father, who founded a furniture studio over 20 years ago. Growing up surrounded by creative ideas and innovative approaches to furniture and product design, Chris developed a deep appreciation for the field.

Later, he pursued his studies in architecture at the University of the Arts London, where he immersed himself in a multicultural environment that shaped his unique approach to design. His creative journey reflects the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, combining the structured, conceptual learning from the West with the refined Eastern aesthetic, a hallmark of his work at Artempo.

Artempo itself embodies this vision, representing the "art of time" — a reflection on how pure art can become overshadowed by accumulated objects over time. Artempo seeks to reclaim eternal objects within space and time, capturing the essence of pausing external expansion and focusing on introspection.

Chris's works are deeply rooted in the beauty of the Orient and the legacy of time, carrying forward the lacquer craftsmanship tradition that has been passed down through his family for over two decades. Each piece conveys an oriental temperament infused with a western expression, highlighting the harmonious coexistence of these cultural influences.
