SUN WENJIA
Born in 1986 in Fujian, China, Sun Wenjia is a contemporary artist whose work redefines the boundaries of traditional Chinese lacquer art.
Graduated with a Master's degree in Lacquer Art from the Academy of Fine Arts at Fujian Normal University, Sun has dedicated his career to exploring the expressive potential of lacquer across multiple dimensions: 2.5D, 3D, spatial installations, and performance-based scenarios.
Through the use of daqi (great lacquer) as his primary medium, Sun Wenjia creates sculptural installations that fuse the mystique of Eastern aesthetics with the bold language of contemporary abstraction.
His practice stands out among the new generation of artists for its deep sensitivity, blending the historical and symbolic weight of lacquer with a powerful, modern sculptural form.
Sun Wenjia’s creations go beyond materiality; they embody a dialogue between spirit and matter, tradition and innovation, past and present. His work reflects a refined understanding of how abstract contemporary art can intertwine with historical narratives, giving rise to pieces that are both timeless and avant-garde.
